4 medium Golden Delicious Apples

3/4 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup all-purpose white flour

1/2 cup quick-cooking or old fashioned oats

1/3 cup butter softened

1/2 teaspoon + 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Heat oven to 375 ºF. Grease bottom and sides of an 8-inch square pan with shortening. Spread apples in pan and sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. In a medium bowl, stir remaining ingredients until will mixed; sprinkle over apples, and press down. Bake for about 30 minutes or until topping is golden brown and apples are bubbling and tender when pierced with a fork. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
