Evan here….I’ve learned a few things of late that I want to share with you.
Firstly, you are never too old to learn.
Secondly, don’t mess with your brand. No matter what we might think that it is, it means different things to different folk, so if you move one way or the other, there will be some discontent somewhere.
Finally, give the issue of credit cards a wide berth; it is a highly emotional subject. After receiving a lot of feedback, some positive but most negative, we are stepping away from the credit card surcharge. It was an attempt to curtail the use of credit cards in our store, but alas, it was poorly received by many. All businesses in the Province, big and small, need to find ways to make financial adjustments in their business to accommodate the costs of the new workplace changes, and it was our approach to use this method rather than changing prices. Truthfully, we were overwhelmed by the customer comment here, and we have taken note. Truly sorry for any upset caused. All monies raised through the surcharge will be donated to 360 Kids, a very worthwhile charity which our group supports.
I live in Washington, DC, and since 2020 has not been business as usual, could not mail gifts to my Markham family. I called the Village Grocer and ordered a Christmas dinner for 6. The quality and portions of the food are still being praised. Mariella’s (sp?!) customer service and efficiency were unequalled. I am now a long-distance fan who highly recommends the Village Grocer and their staff and will definitely be calling them again in the future.
