1 pound potatoes (tatties)        1 table spoon chopped chives
1 pound turnips (neeps)        1 tablespoon butter                salt and pepper to taste

Peel the potatoes and cut into chunks. Place in a pot of lightly salted water and bring to a boil. Cook for 15 minutes or so until tender. Drain well. Peel the neeps and cut into small chunks. Place in a pot of lightly salted water and bring to a boil. Cook for 15-20 minutes until tender. Drain well. Place the cooked tatties and the neeps into the same pan and mash them together very well, adding salt, pepper and butter. Stir in the chopped chives. Serve hot!
