Turnips have a mild, crisp and sweet flavor that’s compatible with other vegetables.  In this dish, turnips are a great combination with sweet carrots and onions.  Holiday veggies can be found fresh at the Village Grocer during the holiday season.

Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 60 minutes

1 lb turnips, peeled and diced
2 carrots, peeled and sliced diagonally
14 frozen pearl onions, thawed
8 cloves garlic, peeled
4 tbsp olive oil, divided
¼ tsp dried savory
¼ tsp salt
1/8 tsp ground black pepper
1 cup soft bread crumbs
1 tsp crushed garlic

Pre-heat the oven to 350 degree F.

Combine turnips, carrots, pearl onions and garlic cloves in a 13x9x2 inch baking dish.  Drizzle 3 tbsp olive oil on top.  Sprinkle with savory, salt and pepper; toss until evenly mixed.  Bake until vegetables are almost tender, about 45 minutes.

Meanwhile, combine bread crumbs, crushed garlic and 1 tbsp olive oil in a small skillet.  Cook, stirring, over medium-high heat until bread is golden, about 4 minutes.

Sprinkle over vegetables and continue baking until vegetables are tender, about 15 minutes.
