Our Store
At the Village Grocer, we do business in a small town way. We know many of our customers by name and even though we've grown a lot in the last few years, we still manage to keep things "homey". Our customers tell us that's the way they like it!
How We Got Started
When Evan and Cathy MacDonald and their extended family started the Village Grocer in Markham back in 1986, their aim was to sell top quality foods to the folks in their neighborhood.
The top quality part hasn't changed, but now our customers come from far and wide to our new store in the village of Unionville to experience our friendly atmosphere and our unusually wide variety of groceries and specialty foods – over 400 homemade items that are unique to the Village Grocer!
Naturally, as our product line grew, we had to grow along with it. Our initial staff of six has grown to about 100, and our store grew too, more than tripling in size! And we now have the Village Kitchen, an off-site facility where our best creations are made.
We may be growing, but we're still small... if you know what we mean!
Who Shops at The Village Grocer?
Well, just about everybody, but the people who appreciate our quality foods and unique homemade selections the most seem to be folks in a hurry who still want to put a great meal on the table...
...Folks looking for selections that suit their busy lives, but prefer healthy, additive-free food that tastes like the real thing because it is the real thing – we made it ourselves!
...Folks who have a hankering for the good old days, when going to the corner grocery wasn't just about buying victuals. It was about having a visit, seeing what's new, and enjoying the whole shopping experience.
And that's what the Village Grocer is still about today. Come visit us when you're in the village!
